O meu pai partiu. Para trás, deixou memórias, vivências e a força do seu olhar. Comigo, ficou também uma máquina fotográfica, com outro tipo de memórias. As que se cristalizam e armazenam em cartões. Dois, neste caso – repletos de registos das suas viagens pelo país em que nasceu, ao qual teve de virar as costas, mas para onde voltaria, inevitávelmente: Angola.

Regiões como Wako Kungo e Kuando Kubango proliferavam nestas centenas de imagens. Assim como os caminhos, entre um e outro ponto geográfico. Detalhes, momentos, instantes no espaço captaram o seu interesse e assim ficaram: parados num tempo de ontem, hoje e amanhã.

Aqui fica uma pequena selecção, por mim trabalhada cinemáticamente. Respeitando a intenção estética e cronologia de uma vida. A vida do homem que me deu vida. E que me ensinou a usar uma câmara...

My father departed. Behind him, he left memories, experiences and the strength of his gaze. A stills camera was left with me, with a different kind of memories. Those that are preserved and stored in cards. Two, in this case – filled with his travelogues around the country in which he was born, to which he had to turn his back, but to which he would inevitably return: Angola.

Regions like Wako Kungo and Kuando Kubango proliferated in these hundreds of images. As much as the routes, between one and another geographic point. Details, moments, instants in space captured his attention and as such they remained: frozen in a time of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Here’s a little selection, with my own cinematic treatment. Respectful of both the aesthetical intention and chronology of a life. The life of the man who gave me life. And who taught me how to use a camera…
